Chronic renal failure, commonly known as chronic kidney disease (CKD), is a slowly progressing deterioration of kidney function over many years. This means controlling and managing any conditions that may have caused it to develop, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or an autoimmune disorder. Treating any infections, avoiding toxins, and eating a healthy diet can also help slow the progression of chronic renal failure. When the condition does progress, the doctor may recommend dialysis or a kidney transplant in order to maintain the individual's quality of life.
