compulsive behavior的用法详解
Compulsive behavior, or compulsive behaviour, is a term used to describe an action that someone has an urge to do, despite the consequences or negative effects. Generally, these behaviors are repetitious and have a strong drive behind them, often making it difficult to ignore them.
Compulsive behavior is most often linked to forms of mental illness, such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). People with OCD commonly experience persistent, intrusive thoughts that cause distress, paired with intrusive actions that are designed to alleviate that distress. For example, a common compulsive behavior associated with OCD is the need to wash one's hands constantly to the point it interferes with their normal life.
Compulsive behavior can also be found in other conditions, such as trichotillomania and kleptomania. Trichotillomania is the uncontrollable urge to pull out one's hair, commonly resulting in bald patches on the body. Kleptomania is another condition associated with compulsive behaviors, which involves the uncontrollable urge to steal items without any need or purpose for them.
Compulsive behaviors can also be seen in conditions such as body dysmorphic disorder, in which individuals become obsessed with a perceived defect in their physical appearance. The resulting anxiety will cause them to engage in compulsions such as constantly checking in the mirror or excessively grooming themselves. Treatment for compulsive behavior can involve cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), medications, and support groups.
