drum cell的用法详解
'
Drum cells are an abnormal type of red blood cell (RBC) seen in peripheral blood smears. It is characterized by a low central pallor, a thickened and dense cell wall, and an eccentrically placed nucleus.
Drum cells can result from a variety of underlying pathologies, such as hypersplenism, myelophthisic anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and vitamin B12/folate deficiency. Drum cells are seen more often in patients with chronic disease, particularly those with liver disease or chronic inflammatory conditions.
The presence of drum cells indicates that the red cells are undergoing destruction in the spleen, or other organs that filter the blood. This destruction is normally seen in autoimmune and malignant diseases. Additionally, drum cells can be seen in chronic myeloid leukemia and other types of malignancy, as well as in patients with a variety of nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin B12, folate, and iron deficiency.
The diagnosis of a drum cell must be confirmed by evaluating underlying pathology, and is not sufficient as a diagnosis alone. Treatment for drum cells is determined by the underlying condition, but may include medications such as iron supplements, vitamins, or immunosuppressants. Additionally, underlying medical conditions may require medical interventions, such as surgery or chemotherapy.
