friction draft gear的用法详解
'
Friction draft gear is a mechanical device used to damp drafting forces on freight cars or locomotives. It works by transferring kinetic energy from the draft forces into heat generated by friction. Friction draft gear is commonly used in North America, Europe and some parts of Asia.
In freight cars, friction draft gears are located between the cars’ axles and its frame. As the cars move, the axle pushes against the frame. The draft gear converts this motion into heat by using a steel alloy box filled with special materials like graphite and silicon. As the axle and frame move, the special material inside the box rubs against each other, creating heat and dampening the draft force.
In locomotives, friction draft gear is used to reduce the recoil forces generated when the engine brakes. It works similarly to how it works in freight cars, but instead of the axle pushing against the frame, the locomotive’s wheels are pushing against the track. As the wheels move, a spring-loaded draft gear inside the locomotive rubs against the track, generating heat and dampening the recoil force.
Friction draft gear is an important part of a freight or locomotive car. Not only does it reduce the draft forces, but it also helps absorb the shock when the car is travelling over rough terrain. Without friction draft gear, these cars would be more prone to derailment or damage during operations.
